How to Get Delisted from DroneBL

How to get delisted from DroneBL — a blacklist targeting open proxies, compromised hosts, and botnet nodes.

Removal Method

Self-service removal request via web form after fixing the issue

Time to Removal

24-48 hours after submitting removal request.

Overview

DroneBL is a real-time blacklist that tracks IPs involved in abuse activities such as open proxies, compromised machines, and botnet participation. It is commonly used by IRC networks and some mail servers to block abusive connections. DroneBL maintains its own detection infrastructure and accepts third-party submissions.

Why You Might Be Listed

  • 1Your IP is running an open proxy (HTTP, SOCKS, or other protocol)
  • 2Your server has been compromised and is participating in a botnet
  • 3Your IP was detected as a botnet command-and-control node
  • 4Third-party abuse reports were submitted against your IP

Step-by-Step Removal

1

Look up your IP

Visit dronebl.org/lookup and enter your IP address. DroneBL will show your listing type and the specific reason your IP was added to the list.

2

Identify and fix the compromise

Based on the listing reason, investigate your server. Close open proxies, remove malware or botnet agents, patch exploited services, and change all credentials. Run a thorough security scan.

3

Submit a removal request

After resolving the issue, use the DroneBL lookup page at dronebl.org/lookup to submit a removal request via their web form. Explain what the issue was and what you did to fix it.

4

Wait for review

DroneBL removal requests are reviewed and typically processed within 24-48 hours. If the underlying issue is not resolved, your request may be denied.

Important Tips

  • DroneBL is heavily used by IRC networks. If you cannot connect to IRC, a DroneBL listing may be the cause.
  • Open proxies are the most common reason for DroneBL listing. Audit your server for any unintentionally exposed proxy services.
  • After removal, harden your server to prevent re-compromise. DroneBL will relist IPs that continue abusive behavior.
