Why Email Blacklist Monitoring Matters

Email blacklisting can happen to anyone — without warning. A single compromised account, a spam complaint surge, or a shared IP issue can put your domain on Spamhaus or Barracuda within minutes. Once listed, your emails start bouncing or landing in spam at Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo immediately.

Most businesses discover a blacklisting the wrong way: customers complaining they're not receiving emails, or noticing a sudden drop in email open rates. By then, the damage has already been done — you've missed orders, support tickets, or important communications for hours or days.

Automated blacklist monitoring flips this around. Instead of reactive discovery, you get proactive alerts the moment a listing appears. With hourly or 15-minute check intervals, you can catch and begin resolving a blacklisting before most recipients even notice.

How Blacklist Monitoring Works

1. Add your domain

Enter your domain name and sending IP address. We automatically resolve your mail server IPs from your MX records.

2. Continuous DNS checks

Our monitoring infrastructure queries all 60 blacklists via DNS at your chosen interval — hourly or every 15 minutes.

3. Instant alerts

The moment a new listing is detected, you receive an email alert with the blacklist name, removal link, and recommended actions.

4. Track your history

View your blacklist history, deliverability score trends, and resolve listings from the dashboard with one click.

More Than Just Blacklist Monitoring

Every monitored domain gets full email health monitoring — not just blacklists.

SPF Monitoring

Alerts when your SPF record changes or develops errors.

DKIM Monitoring

Detects DKIM key rotation issues and selector failures.

DMARC Monitoring

Tracks DMARC policy strength and alignment changes.

MX Record Monitoring

Alerts on MX record changes that could route mail incorrectly.

Deliverability Score

Track your 0-100 deliverability score over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is email blacklist monitoring?
Email blacklist monitoring is the continuous automated checking of your domain and sending IP addresses against email blacklists (DNSBLs). Instead of manually checking your blacklist status periodically, monitoring tools run checks automatically at regular intervals and alert you immediately when a new listing is detected. This lets you respond to blacklistings within minutes rather than discovering them days later when customers report delivery problems.
How often should I monitor my blacklist status?
For business-critical email, hourly monitoring is the minimum recommended frequency. Listings can appear at any time — a compromised account, spam complaint burst, or shared IP issue can trigger a blacklisting that starts blocking email delivery within minutes of the listing. The faster you detect a listing, the faster you can request removal and restore deliverability. Our monitoring checks every hour for Starter plans and every 15 minutes for Pro and Agency plans.
Which blacklists does your monitoring cover?
Our monitoring covers 60 DNS-verified active blacklists including all the major ones: Spamhaus ZEN (SBL, XBL, PBL, CSS), Barracuda BRBL, SpamCop, UCEPROTECT Levels 1-2, SpamRATS, Mailspike, NordSpam, Backscatterer, and dozens more. Every blacklist is quarterly verified to be alive and responding to DNS queries.
What happens when a blacklisting is detected?
When our monitoring detects a new blacklist listing, you receive an immediate alert via email (and Slack or webhook on Pro/Agency plans). The alert includes: which blacklist detected the listing, which IP or domain was listed, the severity/impact of that blacklist, and a direct link to the blacklist's removal page. This gives you everything you need to start the removal process immediately.
Can I monitor multiple domains?
Yes. Our Starter plan covers 5 domains, Pro covers 25, and Agency covers 100 domains. Each domain gets its own blacklist monitoring, SPF/DKIM/DMARC monitoring, and deliverability score tracking. For agencies managing multiple clients, the Agency plan includes a multi-tenant dashboard where you can see the health status of all monitored domains at a glance.
Does monitoring work for email service providers like SendGrid or Mailchimp?
Yes. If you use a dedicated sending IP from an email service provider, you can monitor that IP directly. If you're on a shared IP pool, the ESP typically has their own blacklist monitoring, but you can still monitor your domain (as opposed to the sending IP). We also monitor your DNS authentication records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) which apply regardless of which ESP you use.
