How to Get Removed from Barracuda's Blacklist (BRBL): 2026 Guide
Barracuda's reputation block list is used by thousands of enterprise mail servers. Learn how to check your listing, request removal, and prevent relisting.
About the Barracuda Reputation Block List
The Barracuda Reputation Block List (BRBL) is maintained by Barracuda Networks and is used primarily by organizations running Barracuda Email Security Gateway appliances. A listing can affect delivery to businesses, schools, healthcare organizations, and government agencies running Barracuda products.
Barracuda's BRBL lists both IP addresses and domains separately. You may need to request removal for both.
- 1
Check your listing status
Go to barracudacentral.org → Reputation Lookup. Enter your sending IP AND your domain name separately — both may be listed independently.
- 2
Identify and fix the root cause
Common causes: compromised server sending spam, high complaint rates from recipients, poor list quality, or open relay abuse. Fix the underlying issue before requesting removal.
- 3
Submit removal request
From the barracudacentral.org lookup result page, click the removal request form. Provide your name, organization, email, and a clear explanation of the issue and fix.
- 4
Wait for confirmation email
Barracuda sends a confirmation email within 12–24 hours. If denied, the rejection email explains why — typically means spam is still being detected from your IP.
- 5
Monitor for relisting
Barracuda relists automatically when spam is detected. Set up hourly monitoring to catch any relisting immediately after removal.
Check both IP and domain separately
Barracuda maintains separate lists for IP addresses and domains. Your IP may be clean while your domain is listed (or vice versa). Always check both at barracudacentral.org — a removal request for just your IP will not remove a domain listing.
How to check your Barracuda listing
Go to barracudacentral.org and click 'Reputation Lookup'. Enter your IP address or domain.
The result shows: - Whether you're listed - The listing date - What triggered the listing (spam reports from Barracuda appliances)
Also check your sending IP — your domain may be clean while your sending IP is listed, or vice versa.
How to request removal
Barracuda offers self-service removal: 1. Go to barracudacentral.org → Reputation Lookup → enter your IP or domain 2. If listed, a removal request form appears below the result 3. Fill in your name, organization, email, and reason for removal 4. Submit the request
Processing time: Typically 12-24 hours. Barracuda confirms via email when removal is complete.
If your request is denied: You'll receive a rejection email with reasons. Usually this means spam continues to come from your IP. Fix the underlying issue before reapplying.
Preventing relisting
Barracuda relists IPs and domains automatically when spam is detected from them. Prevention:
- Fix the root cause before requesting removal (compromised server, poor list quality, etc.) - Monitor continuously — Barracuda listings can reappear within hours if the issue isn't resolved - Implement full SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication - Keep complaint rates below 0.1% - Set up automated blacklist monitoring to catch any relisting immediately
